In a city already known for some of the most highly desirable real-estate on the globe, these are the areas that make even some of the world’s richest green with envy.

To get a taste of some of these areas, and see some of the world’s most desired properties, is not too difficult for those visiting New York – they’re both located in the south of Manhattan – and can be tied in to a visit to the High Line or the financial district.

Coming out on top is SoHo – stretching for five blocks South of Houston Street (hence the name SoHo) and bordered by Lafyette and Sixth avenue, SoHo is known for its cast-iron architecture, fantastic shopping – and included in the SoHo boundaries are stretches of Broadway which contain some of the most popular boutique restaurants in NYC.

Apartments here are often spacious and are located near, but not next to, both the financial districts and the buzzing Times Square area. On average, apartments here sell for $2.2m.

The second most exclusive neighbourhood on Manattan Island is TriBeCa. A little further south than SoHo, and a little closer to the financial district, the Triangle Below Canal Street sees apartments sell for an average $2.13m. TriBeCa offers many similar attractions as SoHo in terms of shopping and restaurants – though it is probably most famous for the TriBeCa film festival – founded as a way to help support the neighbourhood after the effects of 9/11. The festival is held in April, and attracts over 100,000 visitors each year, and tickets can sell very quickly.
